Novice training changes effective May 20th onwards

For Novice level only.... Starting Wednesday May 20th practice is from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, on Mondays and Wednesdays until the end of the swim season. The change is due to a pool conflict with swimming lessons. Our apologies for the short notice. /doug

JENO TIHANYI SCHOLARSHIP FUND 2009

Applications are now being accepted for the Jeno Tihanyi Scholarship for the 2009 season.

This scholarship was established in 1996 to honour Dr. Tihanyi's outstanding contribution to both coaching and swimming in the North Eastern Ontario Region. It is intended to assist swimmers in the continuation of their competitive endeavors.

Announcing new Head Coach Dean Henze

It is a pleasure for the Executive of SLSC to announce the hiring of Dean Henze for the position of Head Coach of the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club.

Dean has twenty years of swim coaching experience, most recently with the Barrie Trojans’ 150 swimmers. His successes have included coaching multiple swimmers to Provincial tour teams, Canada Games, and International tours. Dean’s commitment to professional development and coaching is strong. His involvement in Swim Ontario has included the Ontario Swim Coaches Association (OSCA) Board of Directors, Ethics Chair, and the development of the LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) model.

Dean is originally from Atikokan, Ontario where he swam for a number of years before attending the University of Manitoba. While in Manitoba Dean worked with the Manitoba Marlins, University of Manitoba and the Selkirk Dolphin swim club. Dean’s goal in coaching is try and get the most out of each athlete that they can give and show them that they can achieve great and wonderful things in the process

Dean will be intimately involved in the coaching plans for the 2009-2010 swim season and beyond. Dean will work closely with Coach Phil Parker and the SLSC Executive to develop short-term and long-term plans to meet the goals and objectives of SLSC and our swimmers.

Dean will be starting as Head Coach on September 1st, 2009.

2009 East Side Mario's Invitational - Meet and Session Info

For those looking for info on the East Side Mario's Invitational swim meet in Sudbury on May 8-9-10, 2009 then here is some...

The pool is located on Athletic Building Road at Laurentian University.  Click the link for a Google Map.  While some parking is available near the pool, ample parking is available in Lot 11.  Refer to the Campus Map.

Preliminary session times are as follows. Warm-up is one hour long and is the hour prior to start-time.  End times are approximate. The meet is Long Course (50 m).

• Friday 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm 
• Saturday 8:30 am - 11:30 am
• Saturday 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
• Saturday 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
• Sunday 8:30 am - 11:30 am
• Sunday 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
• Sunday 6:30 pm - 8:45 pm

The meet package is available on the www.swimming.ca website.  The meet package includes a bunch of hotels in-and-around the area.
